Question: The other day, I went to amazon.com, and saw a book of yours with a lot of reviews. I also searched for your other books. What motivates you to write?
Answer: Actually, there are multiple reasons. First and foremost, those books are mostly the products of my long years of teaching experience. For every subject I teach, I make sure that I prepare detailed lecture notes for every class and for every chapter. As I continue teaching the same subject every term, I would add more content or make changes to the original content based on the student feedback. After a few years, I would tell myself, why not turn those lecture notes into a book? Secondly, it is the consideration of my students who need books that are easy to read and clear in structure that motivates me to write. My books give them an opportunity to understand complicated concepts in simple language, which gives me a sense of success. Thirdly, as an educator for many years, I firmly believe that teaching is twice learning, and I also believe that writing a book is the best way to study something systematically, purposefully, and retentively so that I can become a better educator with more knowledge and skills. Fourthly, I take very much delight in critical thinking whenever it is possible. When I have read a thought provoking book, or when i sit on a quiet commuter train, or when I just take a walk in the colors of the sunset light on the beach, I find myself thinking about big questions. I also have a habit of recalling and writing down random but serious thoughts on my iPad or computer. When I realize I have plenty of such notes, I would tell myself, why not turn them into a book? Finally, I have been encouraged both by colleagues and by the readers every time a book gets published, which drives to write more.
